Ola Nā Kini

Mālama Learning Center launched Ola Nā Kini, a program designed to heal the land, ocean, and multitude of life through engagement and education.

Ola Nā Kini emerged on the slopes of the southern Waiʻanae mountains, bringing back life-giving plants to places where they once thrived. Ola Nā Kini involves students, teachers, cultural practitioners, community members, scientists, resource managers, and visitors through hands-on, place-based education with real-world applications.
“Ola Nā Kini,” comes from a verse from a traditional Hawaiian pule (prayer), which can be translated to “life for the multitude.” The multitude may refer to people as well as elements of nature. The pule seeks to bring life of good deeds for all. Mahalo to Sam ʻOhukaniʻōhiʻa Gon for inspiring us to name this initiative Ola Nā Kini.

Services Include:
  • School Programs
  • Conservation Leadership Internships
  • Native Plant Adoption Days
  • Laulima Saturdays
  • Earth Days
Education is a cornerstone of Ola Nā Kini, reaching a broad audience from elementary students to college-level learners and volunteers. Through hands-on experiences with conservation and agricultural professionals, participants engage in innovative problem-solving while gaining valuable insights into 21st-century careers.

Here's another way that schools, businesses, and individuals can support Ola Nā Kini -- the Me + Tree campaign!

For every tax deductible donation of $50, Mālama Learning Center will be able to raise and plant a native tree or shrub in the Waiʻanae Mountains, and educate a student to take care of the environment. For donations of $500 or more, we can set up a special planting day for your group. All Me + Tree donors will receive a certificate acknowledging their contribution.

We proudly acknowledge Hawaiian Electric Company as the founding sponsor of Ola Nā Kini.  Hawaiian Electric’s sponsorship commemorates the company’s 125th anniversary serving Hawaiʻi.  This gift was made as an Act of Aloha.

We also welcome our new partnership with Love Peace Harmony Foundation and its Plant a Million initiative that has a goal to plant one million trees across the world through its network of organizations and individuals. Love Peace Harmony Foundation is nourishing the Earth one tree at a time.

Please contact us if you would like to find out about becoming a sponsor. Contributions are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
