Mākeke  - farmers' and green market

new! mĀkeke nĀnĀkuli is now open!

Although one chapter has ended, a new one has begun. Mākeke Nānākuli opened on Thursday, August 8, 2019, located at the grounds of the beautiful Nānākuli Public Library. The mākeke continues the tradition by offering fresh local produce; poi, kulolo, and haupia; fresh baked bread, 'ono prepared food; crafts; and native Hawaiian plants. Please come and support local farmers, cooks, artists, and our community!  Mālama Learning Center will join the Mākeke to teach occasional workshops so we look forward to seeing you then and there!

Mākeke Kapolei has closed permanently as of May 16, 2019.
We regret that Mākeke Kapolei has closed on May 16, 2019 after seven and a half wonderful years of operation at Kapolei High School. Wai'anae Coast Comprehensive Health Center is actively seeking a new site for the market in Leeward O'ahu.
Mahalo nui loa to the market's dedicated vendors and customers!
Mālama Learning Center, Wai`anae Farmers' Market, and Kapolei High School are partnering to provide the community with Mākeke Kapolei, a weekly farmers' and green market.  Live, eat, and learn sustainably!

Vision
We envision an O‘ahu community that is healthy in mind, body and spirit by providing vibrant gathering places for the community, local food producers and Hawaiian cultural practitioners to connect, share, learn, teach, entertain, and express values that lead to healthy and affordable habits.

Mission
Using the power of partnerships and recognizing a farmers' market can be an important economic and social development tool for the Kapolei community, Mākeke Kapolei will strive to create a gathering place to:
  • Preserve the knowledge, values and traditions of local farmers, food producers and Hawaiian cultural practitioners;
  • Support and encourage both new and experienced farmers to develop environmentally sound and economically viable practices;
  • Support and encourage cultural practitioners and artisans;
  • Provide our community weekly access to fresh, affordable, locally grown produce and products;
  • Provide an environment that invites and promotes the sharing, learning and expressing of malama pono among community members, vendors, students and educator
We gladly accept EBT and SNAP benefits!

As of 2016, Mākeke Kapolei has expanded our EBT Double Bucks program and can now

double up to $20 of EBT/SNAP benefits

on the purchase of fresh fruits, vegetables, poi, and pa`i`ai.
