Mālama Learning Center (MLC) evolved as a collaborative response to serve two area needs: Kapolei High School (KHS) wanted to build a performing arts auditorium for the community and an environmental group wanted to establish a conservation learning center.
Community members joined the effort and the resulting “hybrid” is MLC, a private non-profit organization envisioned as a place in West Oʻahu that brings art, science, conservation, and culture together to promote sustainable living throughout Hawaiʻi. |
We design hands-on, place-based programs that teach sustainable, culturally grounded living. With health and the environment at the core, we serve diverse audiences beyond traditional classrooms. As a small nonprofit, we focus on our strengths--environmental education, natural resource management, and leadership development. Partnering with local conservation, agriculture, nonprofits, and academic institutions, MLC plays a key role in bringing people together to drive meaningful results.
We had long planned to build a state-of-the-art green facility on three acres at the northwest tip of Kapolei High School's campus. However, unforeseen circumstances put that dream on hold. In the meantime, Kapolei High and Camp Pālehua have graciously provided us with space to run many of our programs as we continue to seek a permanent home.
