Stanley Saitowitz was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, where he began his practice in 1975. He has held teaching posts at numerous schools, including the Eliot Noyes Professorship at the Harvard GSD. He is currently a Professor of Architecture at the University of California at Berkeley. He has received numerous awards including The American Institute of Architects 1998 Henry Bacon Medal for Memorial Architecture, and The Boston Society of Architects 1997 Harleston Parker Award. Completed projects include the California Museum of Photography, the New England Holocaust Memorial in Boston, the Capp Street Artist Workshop, the Quady Winery, the Auditorium at Wurster Hall, and the San Francisco Embarcadero Promenade, Yerba Buena Lofts and the Oxbow Art School in Napa.

Current projects include the Visual Arts Library at the University of California, Berkeley, Housing and Parking for UCSF Mission Bay Campus, The Civic Plaza for Henderson, Nevada, Lofts Alhel in Mexico City, and The University of Waterloo School of Architecture in Ontario, Canada.
