Kapolei High School

Kapolei High School (KHS), the newest public high school built in the state of Hawai`i, is located in the Villages of Kapolei. The school services families residing in O’ahu’s “Second City” of Kapolei, Makakilo, Kalaeloa, Honokai Hale, and Ko Olina. KHS opened on July 26, 2000 to 375 freshmen. One grade level was added each subsequent year with the first graduating class in June 2004. The current student body is about 2,200.

The vision for Kapolei High School -- Kapolei High School is an exciting and dynamic student-centered learning environment at the heart of the community -- is based on the recommendations of Breaking Ranks: Changing an American Institution, a report published by the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Drawing from the most essential elements of the reports, Kapolei High School is a student-centered learning environment that focuses on sustaining a strong partnership between the school and the community.

Mālama Learning Center is proud to recognize Kapolei High School as its original partner and looks forward to developing an even stronger relationship over time.

Ka‘ala Farm

A long-standing partner of Mālama Learning Center is Ka‘ala Farm, a non-profit organization in Wai‘anae Valley.  Ka‘ala  Farm grew out of a community vision firmly rooted in the larger cultural kīpuka that is  Wai‘anae and has dedicated over thirty years to creating additional kīpuka – places where our ancestral knowledge lives on through youth, where thriving ahupua‘a are living examples of healthy, maintained watersheds, and where our Hawaiian traditions are carried forth in a way that makes our people and our communities stronger.

Ka‘ala Farm's mission is to reclaim and preserve the living culture of the Po‘e Kahiko (people of old) in order to strengthen the kinship relationships between the ‘āina (land, that which nourishes) and all forms of life necessary to sustain the balance of life on these vulnerable islands.
