We extend our deepest "mahalo" to the generous donors who have already shown their support for the Mālama Learning Center.
On February 18, 2011, Walmart Foundation's Hawai`i State Giving Council announced its generous gifts to several deserving non-profits in Hawai`i, including the Malama Learning Center! See the news release for more information about the projects funded by these grants. Pauline Sato (far left in photo below) happily represented Malama Learning Center at the announcement.

Volunteers of all ages and abilities are welcome to join in and help. Whether you are a student, teacher, artist, businessperson, retiree -- there is something you could do to help. You could help with specific projects such as restoring natural areas, selling products at our new farmers' and green market, growing plants in our nursery, speaking to groups, creating presentation materials like brochures, designing artwork, writing content for our website, or sharing your musical talent with us at a future fund-raiser or teaching event.
There is no limit to how you can help! Another great aspect of volunteering is that your sweat equity can be used to match some grants... so in a real way, volunteers are donors. Please contact us at info@malamalearningcenter.org or (808) 692-8200 ext. 2267 if you have something to offer.

Mālama Learning Center is deeply gratified to have been the non-profit organization selected by 'Ilima at Leihano, an upcoming continuing care retirement community in Kapolei, to be the sole beneficiary of proceeds from a luncheon on June 4, "Gidget Goes Hawaiian." With support from ticket sales; autographed book sales; and sponsorships from Rider Levett Bucknall, HomeWorld, Kaiser Permanente and PacificBasin Communications; ‘Ilima raised $6,000 for the Mālama Learning Center.
Surfing icon and inspiration for the world famous book, film and television series “Gidget” made a special presentation at the JW Marriott Ihilani Resort in Ko Olina at the luncheon. Kohner-Zuckerman inspired several generations of young women in the ‘50s to surf and now at age 70 she is inspiring all ages to catch the next wave, including all of the guests at the presentation.
Mahalo nui loa to 'Ilima at Leihano, a project of Kisco Senior Living, the generous donors, and Kathy Kohner-Zuckerman for their warm generosity!

(L-R) Robin Craig (Kisco), Kathy Kohner-Zuckerman ("Gidget"), Gwen Trowbridge ('Ilima at Leihano), and Pauline Sato celebrate a happy partnership.

Kapolei High School Business Academy students volunteered to support the event and got to talk story with Gidget!

‘Ilima at Leihano, soon to be Kapolei’s newest Continuing Care Retirement Community, will be a vibrant, health enhancing, resort-style community where you can enjoy indoor-outdoor living within a lush garden campus built with sustainable features designed to complement the natural landscape. |
